What Is Telehealth?

It is hard to believe that so many things in life that we thought was a Live in-Person Must Do like buying groceries, going to school, going to church, and even having a party are now being done online.  Whoever would have thought 100 years ago that our phones would fit in the palm of our hand and can actually be carried with you. And who would of thought, that instead of going to the library, we would have access to all the information in the world with a click of a finger.  And while we are at it …. What is a computer? Telehealth physiotherapy online is not only possible, it is also proven to be an effective form of online telemedicine treatment that can help you reduce pain or recover from injury or illness at home.

If you are looking for expert pain or injury treatment but are unable to attend due to health concerns, the COVID-19 pandemic, or your location you can now access our highly skilled providers from the comfort of your home or office.

Our Telehealth services for Physiotherapy, Health & Wellness Coaching and Fitness & Performance means using online platforms, like Zoom or Webex, to deliver healthcare services instead of “live in-person” at a clinic.

Telehealth has been around for some time but was brought into a much greater degree of awareness, for many, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the urgency to continue to provide healthcare services to those who need it.

Telehealth or Telemedicine is now becoming a normal means of delivering healthcare because it has been found to work and work very effectively.

It not only keeps us safe in the time of COVID, it also is very convenient …. and it is not going away. Telehealth is now being used for medical consults for a wide variety of conditions, annual check-ups, post-surgical monitoring, safety screens, wellness and preventative services, to name a few….and physiotherapy. In fact, a UC Irvine School of Medicine study recently stated that Telehealth physiotherapy was as effective as in-clinic therapy for improving function for those who have suffered from a stroke. Another study reported that there was a high level of correlation between an in-clinic PT diagnosis and those obtained via telehealth. So yes, even though PT has always been thought to require a lot of time in the way of hands-on treatment, there is more than one way to skin a cat.

But for those that are in great need of hands-on treatment, NexGen Rehab and Wellness offers a service with a combination of both, so we can provide the hands-on manual treatment necessary, and the remainder of the sessions by telehealth.

How Do Telehealth Treatments Work?

Once you are scheduled, just like when you go into a doctor’s office you will be sent a questionnaire about your medical history and current symptoms.  But, instead of filling it out on paper you will complete it online. You will also be sent an email, guiding you, how to create a NexGen Rehab and Wellness account that is yours only.  Your own private patient portal to our client services.  From this account you will be able to access everything related to your care and be able to contact your provider.

After you submit your questionnaire online, your provider will review it prior to your appointment and then review it with you during your appointment. Before your scheduled treatment you will receive instruction to the easy steps in how to join your provider for your personalized video visit. You will be able to see and talk with your provider from the comfort and convenience of home and your provider will work with you one-on-one without distraction. You can even involve family members or caregivers, if you like. And it is all done without the drive time.

Once you are online for your video visit your provider will discuss with you your problem and history and even do a physical examination by video that is related specifically to your problem, and then provide you with a physiotherapy diagnosis.  If further information or tests are recommended, your provider walk you through what you need to do and even make referrals to the appropriate provider for those services, if needed.

After the consultation is completed a Telehealth treatment plan is created and you are off and running toward getting back to your activities.

The remaining video visits will be devoted to your customized treatment with clear instruction and demonstration by your provider.  Many of your visits will include using the fun treatment items that have been sent by mail from RHC called the Client Tool Kit.

After each video visit you will receive a summary of your visit, instructions for what to do between visits and any exercise pictures that you may need. But if you have any questions you can easily contact your provider in your patient portal and not have to wait for your next appointment. Telehealth physiotherapy is the new kid on the block in treating all kinds of conditions.  Simple, convenient, effective and fun!
